The final round of nominations happens in December. We'll keep you posted as to whether or not the record makes it all the way. Congratulations to Jack Wright, Ron Short and all of those producers and artists who were involved in this mammoth undertaking!

"Black Lung" Reviews
…
My name is Brad Mennie and I have a show here on the West Coast of Canada called "The Big Groove". On it, I play a Canadian heavy mix of blues, roots, folk, and those cool areas where the three all work together.
…
I've been listening to your Radio Sampler4 and really enjoyed it.
Some of the strong Americana and country sounds are a little outside of my format; however, four selections are really strong and fall well within what I bring to my show.
Love the backbeat and lead guitar work of Rusty Truck. You label it as country/americana but I think the harmonies give it pretty strong mainstream appeal.
Love Kylie Harris's vocals. Almost an old classic R&B style overtop of a cool groove.
Black Lung is a true folk track that I'll have to work hard at fitting in, but the lyrics are so strong, it's worth it.
Michael Chapman is probably my favorite track. bluesy/folk sound that I love to play.
He is along the same lines as chris Smither, Another vet. Check him out if you haven't heard of him.
Hope that helps out a bit. I'll let you know when and where the show comes back in February. The joys of the internet!
You can check out my outdated website www.thebiggroove.org to give you an idea what the show is about. I'll be attacking it when I'm reorganized.
Cheers

Hello DJs & MDs –

By now, you should have volume 4 of the King Easy Radio Sampler! If you don’t have one, please contact us and we will make sure a copy is on its way.
We are proud of the quality of this collection. If you love it or hate it – please let us know! We make this sampler as a service to you and the artists, and we want to know how we can improve! If you have time, please let us know your thoughts, and of any spins.
Here are the artists included in Volume 4:
1. Rusty Truck - Cold Ground
Before acclaimed photographer Mark Seliger’s musical career began, he was the Chief Photographer for Rolling Stone. During this period he began writing his own music. T Bone Burnett and Sheryl Crow add their talents to this lonesome, yet beautiful track.
2. Caryl Mack Parker - The Love in Your Eyes
Billboard calls her music "A Masterpiece." From her new album "Rancho Divine," this feel-good track fits like an old sneaker, evoking the retro-stylings for your favorite old Jackson Brown or Bonnie Raitt vinyl.
3. Bob Cheevers - What I've Done For Love
A personal testimony about how far one man would go for love.
4. Shannon Whitworth - No Expectations
Shannon's achingly beautiful ballad No Expectations deals with the hurt and grief that change can bring, as well as looking ahead at the beauty and hope that comes at a point in life where you're not sure where the road may lead.
5. John Oates - Ghost Town
From John Oates' critically acclaimed solo effort comes this cinematic paean to post-Katrina New Orleans. Cameos by John Popper (Blues Traveler), Bela Fleck and Bekka Bramlett frame a mournful brass funeral arrangement on this standout track.
6. The Whispertown 2000 - Old Times
This Los Angles indie quartet delivers quirky and catchy folk-pop tunes with smart lyrics and compelling harmonies. Part of the extended Rilo Kiley musical circle and the first band signed to Gillian Welch and David Rawlings’ Acony Records.
7. Don Tolle - James Duane
A song that was born of a name that kept recurring to me in the most unusual ways - from out of the mists of the past. Then came the day when it ran head long into a groove and melody that gave it life.
8. Robby Hecht - Freight Train Lady
Produced by Lex Price, featuring Mindy Smith on backing vocals.
9. Kylie Harris - Different Place, Different Time
Mid tempo moody vibey track. Guitar and drum focus.
10. The Midnight Ramblers - Somewhere Down the Road
About a free spirited person with a longing to see the world, always looking for something that they might not recognize, even if they found it. It's the seraching that keeps them going & the road that makes their journey a success.
11. Darrell Scott - American Tune
On his 7th release, the award winning songwriter’s mission is to showcase “... artists/songwriters whose music shook me as a kid (with ears nearly as big as my heart). They guided the way to my own path as a singer-songwriter." Harmony by Tim O’Brien.
12. A.J. Roach - Black Lung
A commentary on the effect that the exploitation of Appalachian labor by Big Coal has had on mountain communities. Roach's own grandfather died from complications of Black Lung, so the song is somewhat auto-biographical.
13. Old Crow Medicine Show - Alabama High-Test
Frenetic. Paranoid. Exhuberant. Racy.
14. Del McCoury - Get Down on Your Knees and Pray
A chilling gem from the newly released Best of Del McCoury, The GrooveGrass Years, an album that finds Del recording with Doc Watson, Mac Wiseman, Jerry Douglas, and Bootsy Collins. Engineered by Gary Paczosa.
15. Del McCoury - I Feel the Blues Movin' In
A never before released version of an original song by the master of bluegrass. Previously covered by The Cox Family and The Trio. From the new CD Best of Del McCoury, The GrooveGrass Years.
16. Michael Chapman - That Time of Night
English singer-songwriter Michael Chapman defined the melancholic observer role on his classic early 70sUK albums. Time Past & Time Passing reintroduces an unsung hero of the guitar in a class with Roy Harper, Bert Jansch and Davy Graham.
17. Wayne Scott - Sunday With My Son
From Wayne’s astounding debut, recorded at age 71, This Weary Way documents one of the most authentic country artists you’ve never heard. Sunday tells of the heartbreak after divorce from a father’s view. Pure mountain music.
Thanks for your support, and we look forward to hearing from you! Also – thanks to those of you who have already responded!
